Going (notary) public pt 3: I swore an oath
Finishing my application with the Department of Licensing
Welcome to part 3 of Going (Notary) Public, a series on the why, how, and what of becoming a notary public. In this installment I will go over the Oath of Office that needs to be signed and sent into the Washington Department of Licensing in order to complete my application.
- Part 1: What is a notary public and why become one
- Part 2: The applying online in Washington through notaries.com
After finishing my application on notaries.com I was emailed instructions pointing me towards the Washington Department of Licensing online notary application. Attached to this email were two important documents, filled out entirely other than blank signatures lines.
- A signed Oath of Office form
- Confirmation of the $10,000 surety bond I purchased in part 2
You will need an account through the Secure Access Washington portal to begin. The instructions are not exactly clear as the portal is for a number of public digital services, notary applications only being one of them. I went with “Add new service” and browsed “A-Z” and then did a ctrl+f for “notaries.”
